[Korea Daily] KORUS FTA Country of Origin Verification Seminar: 6.2.2016
Korea-US FTA Country of Origin Verification seminar conducted by US Customs to enhance Korean companies' responsiveness for country of origin verification, was held on June 1, 2016, at Los Angeles Education Center.
After KORUS FTA went into effect, customs benefits and advantages through the FTA have been favorable in opening opportunities for exporting market expansion for Korean corporations. Meanwhile, many Korean corporations have been in a disadvantage due to lack of preparation and response for origins verification, and pointed out that the company suffers from potential management instability due to FTA country of origin verification. KOTRA LA Trade Office and Korean Consulate in LA, The Korean Investors and Traders Association (KITA), Korean American Customs and Trade Study Form (KACTS) have recognized that origins verification is much needed so that Korean corporations are able to manage their business in stability, therefore planned a joint seminar regarding FTA and US export expansion strategies.
In the seminar, experts from both the US and KOREA Customs' country of origins verification were invited as guest speakers who explained the procedures of the verification, preparation tips, actual cases, etc., and discussed effective counter plans and directly answered participants' questions.
Attorney J.J. Kim for J.J.Kim & Associates, PC explained that "The establishment of the CEE represents the government's determination for a more strict management of customs clearance as well as country of origin verification and unfair international trade practice."
